Christy O’Connor is the Program Coordinator for the HED program in NC State Extension.  Christy is a Licensed Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN/LDN) who previously worked with individuals living with diabetes by providing individualized nutrition counseling in local health departments and hospital settings.  She is excited to bring her expertise in nutrition and diabetes care to the HED program, in hopes for improved diabetes outcomes throughout North Carolina.

Christy’s role in the HED program is to ensure FCS agents have the support needed to successfully implement HED classes in their counties.  Functioning as a liaison between NC State Extension and local Cooperative Extension offices, she facilitates communication between FCS agents, organizes schedules, and executes tasks to achieve HED program goals.  Christy also works closely with Albemarle Regional Health Services, the clinical partner for the HED program, to ensure there is an accurate flow of information between the class participants and expert clinical diabetes care.
