Diabetes and Heart Health
People living with type 2 diabetes are two times more likely to develop and die from cardiovascular disease, such as heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure, than those without type 2 diabetes. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for those living with diabetes. Yet, many individuals do not know about this increased risk of heart disease and mortality.
You can take steps to reduce your risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the American Heart Association (AHA) teamed up to develop and launch the Know Diabetes by Heart™ initiative to reduce cardiovascular death, heart attack, stroke, and heart failure among people with type 2 diabetes.
